Bukayo Saka Nominated for Premier League Player of the Month

Published

on

For the second straight month, Bukayo has been included in the six-man shortlist for the Premier League player of the month prize and is looking to follow in Martin Odegaard’s footsteps who won the November/December award.

The Arsenal FC attacker featured in three league matches during the month, and played a crucial role in their victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the north London derby by driving in off the right flank and his fierce shot forcing Hugo Lloris to concede an own goal, before setting up Odegaard to make it 2-0.

Saka then netted a superb strike against Manchester United in the following match to take his tally to seven in 19 league games this term, matching the number of assists to his name so far.

Bukayo has been nominated for the award along with Brighton & Hove Albion’s Solly March who scored a hat-trick against Liverpool, Riyad Mahrez of Manchester City and Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford who is in fine form since the world cup and all scored three times during the month.

Brennan Johnson’s two goals and two assists during Nottingham Forest’s recent revival has also seen him nominated, while impressive performances at the back by Newcastle United defender Dan Burn and Brentford goalkeeper David Raya also put them in contention.

You can vote for Bukayo now, with the public’s votes being combined with those of a panel of football experts to determine the winner, while Aaron Ramsdale’s excellent stop against Tottenham is also available to choose as the Save of the Month.

As well as being nominated for the Player of the Month award, Bukayo Saka is also in contention to win the Premier League’s Goal of the Month award for January.

His sensational strike from long-range against Manchester United is one of eight netbusters selected as the best from the last month, with fans being offered the chance to help pick the winner.

Bukayo’s moment came in the 53rd minute of the game at Emirates Stadium last week. With the score locked at 1-1, he received the ball on the right flank from Takehiro Tomiyasu, managed to evade Christian Eriksen and then after creating the yard of space he required, unleashed a rocket of a shot from 25 yards that fizzed past David de Gea and into the bottom corner to send the home supporters into bedlam.

That was his eighth strike of the season so far in all competitions, and one of his finest ever in Arsenal colours, fully deserving his spot on the ballot.

He is up against three goals from Brighton & Hove Albion players – Solly March and Danny Welbeck’s well-taken efforts against Liverpool, as well as Kaoru Mitoma’s curler against Leicester City.

Marcus Rashford’s blast against Arsenal is also included, as are Daniel Podence’s strike for Wolves against Aston Villa, Michael Olise’s brilliant last-minute free-kick to earn Crystal Palace a draw against United, and Harry Kane’s turn and shot against Fulham.

South Korea 2-3 Ghana: World Cup 2022

Published

on

Ghana become the first nation in 40years to have both scored and conceded at least five goals after their opening matches of a specific World Cup. It should be noted that Hungary and Scotland were the most recent nations to do so and this was in 1982.

Ghana’s Mohammed Kudus: It is a good feeling. We wanted the three points and we got them. Everyone was absolutely on top of their game today. They came back to 2-2, we had to come up with more energy and it happened.

“I want to thank all my team-mates, it’s a team game and they all played a part in my performance. The cross in from Jordan [Ayew] and the cut-back from Inaki [Williams]. Big up to everyone because everyone played a part.”

On the Uruguay game: We’re fully confident. We came in with the same mentality, we’ll go in with 100%.”

Didier Drogba on Ghana’s win againt South Korea: Ghana is a big nation of football. They don’t have the big names like Micheal Essien and that generation, they had a difficult African Cup of Nations a few months ago, they really needed a good start here, lost to Portugal but I really liked their reaction today. Tactically, Ashraf has undergone several evolutions throughout his career. While at Namagabi SS and during his first season at Terra Nova Soccer Academy, he was typically deployed as a traditional winger on the right side of midfield, where he regularly looked to deliver crosses into the penalty area. In this position, he was able to use his pace and acceleration, agility and technical skills to take on opponents in one-on-one situations. Ashraf became noted for his dribbling and flair, often displaying an array of tricks and feints, such as the step overs and so-called ‘chops’ that became his trademark; he has also been known to use Ronaldo’s flip–flap.
