A group of Makerere University Students who offered a bachelors degree in Social Sciences and majored in Gender Studies, teamed up and came up with an idea which something is regarded, understood, or interpreted in many ways through Vision, Sound, Touch, Smell, Social, Speech, Faces, Familiarity, Agency, Sexual stimulation, and other senses of body balance, temperature, acceleration, gravity, position of body parts & pain which they entitled “The Perception”.

The Perception is an online talk show that will be streaming on all fiktube platforms to enable the audience understand the perception of gender through a visualization but this time not materialised through books and scripts. The fact that gender is almost everywhere, this show bases on content analysis and observations put to use as research tools on various TV shows in Uganda’s media fraternity. There is more or less a set that portrays the gender analytical categories, the gender relations set all out to cause gender parity. Most of the content tries to bring women’s voice on air, as they bring on women to speak on the injustices they have suffered which is not bad but since its been the only outrageous way to go, in recent times it’s right to say that it has created a negative identity for women. Case in point are the shows that were famously known as “ebaluwa” which aired on both voiced and pictorial media sets, which painted women as witches who are devilish and satanic as the end notes of every letter sought for traditional healing of which in modern times has been under pinned as satanic. However the new proposed show brings content that benefits and changes the perceptions of men and women creating empowering identities for women as they will be showcased speaking on suffrage topics, civic, economic, health, social, cultural, and all round topics and devising workable rational solutions that will be relatable to all women and men of all ages. Thus the show sets to be educational aiming at deconstructing the socially constructed patterns that men and women uphold in a feminist perspective that bring about the gender impartialities.

Perception Versus Reality

In the case of visual perception, some people can actually see the percept shift in their mind’s eye. Others, who are not picture thinkers, may not necessarily perceive the ‘shape-shifting’ as their world changes. This esemplastic nature has been demonstrated by an experiment that showed that ambiguous images have multiple interpretations on the perceptual level. The questions to be asked maybe “Is there truth & lies, or it’s perception? | What comes to your mind when a woman puts on a short dress or a long dress? When a young teenager develops breasts, does it mean that she should be abused? | Why are teenage pregnancies increasing rampantly | Men And Women’s lives, what matters the most?”. All these in the talk show “The Perception” exclusive on fiktube and all it’s platforms including the Fiktube Pro Mobile App available on Google Play Store.
